Following a three-hour drive down to Devon on the Thursday evening, we finally arrived at the hotel around 10pm. We grabbed a quick drink in the bar, but got to bed fairly quickly as we were both tired from the journey. The room was amazing, they gave us the bridal suite (I told Helen they must’ve given us an upgrade as I only booked a standard suite online).

Kilmarnock and Crossraguel Abbey

On Monday morning, we woke up nice and early again, got another hearty breakfast, and set off to explore. First stop was Kilmarnock, a slightly larger town than Ayr just a short drive North. The town wasn’t very nice itself, it was fairly run-down with a lot of empty shops. There was some fairly interesting graffiti around though.

Bates Motel in Coventry

For the August Bank Holiday, we set off from home after work and dinner on the Friday night, arriving in Coventry fairly late on. The hotel wasn’t at all what we expected, and was more of a motel, with rooms leading straight in to the open air. It was a little like Bates Motel from Psycho, but luckily we weren’t in a room next to the reception.

Whitby Plus Abbey

Continued from Part 3

On Wednesday, we woke up, had our usual full-English breakfast downstairs at the hotel restaurant, got ready for the day and set off on our adventures. On this day, we travelled North to Whitby, through the North Yorkshire Moors, arriving late morning. The moors were beautiful in the morning, it was like driving through a background from Sharpe or Poldark.
