Continued from Part 1…
On Monday morning after breakfast in the hotel, we set off to Hull to see The Deep, one of the largest aquariums in the UK. The building itself was pretty impressive, and the inside was very interesting. The first area of the tour is filled with (most likely fake) fossils of prehistoric marine life.
After this were thousands of tropical fish.
The fish started getting bigger as we went through.
When we got to the end, it was around lunch time, so we stopped at the café for a quick bite to eat, before going in to Hull to explore. All in all, it was a wonderful aquarium, very well laid out with lots of interesting creatures to look at… One last picture of an interesting creature before leaving for Hull…
We parked in the main shopping centre in Hull and had a good walk around the city. It’s a very industrial city compared with Manchester, no matter where you are, you can see some sort of smoke stack or crane sticking up above the skyline. The indoor shopping centres were very nice though, and there was the odd park and fountain that was well kept and brightened the place up.
Leaving Hull, we decided to go on a coastal road drive to see what we could find. We started just North of the Humber, driving through a number of small villages up the East coast towards Scarborough. By late afternoon we found ourselves in Bridlington, a beautiful little seaside town with two different centres; one on the coast with newer buildings and shops (Argos etc), and one a little further in from the coast with lots of older buildings and independent stores.
We stopped at the old part of town and had a walk around, eventually settling in to a little tea room called The Georgian Tea Rooms and Antique Centre; a lovely little tea room with an antiques store upstairs. We had a couple of scones with cream and jam, some English tea, then a browse of the antiques upstairs, before setting off back to the hotel.
Back at the hotel, we were both pretty tired after a long day of walking around, so after a couple of hours relaxing (and playing with the jacuzzi features on the bath), we stayed in for dinner at the hotel restaurant, and had an early night.
