Peveril Castle

In the middle of Hope Valley in the Peak District, Peveril Castle overlooks the small village of Castleton. The drive down to Castleton itself is very steep, and the area is a major cycling, motorbiking, and walking hotspot. It was a lovely sunny day, so it seemed as though everyone from a 50 mile radius was descending on the Peak District for a Sunday in the sun, it was very busy.

Beeston Castle

Roughly 35 minutes drive from home, we arrived at Beeston Castle on a gloriously hot and sunny Sunday morning. As we got closer, the roads got more narrow, but traffic was very light so we barely made use of the lay-bys. We arrived at around 10:30, bought our tickets, and started the climb to the top of the hill.

King’s Lynn, Castle Rising Castle, and Weeting Castle

Continued from Part 1

From Ely, we got back on the road and headed North towards King’s Lynn. By this point, even though we’d been caught in the rain in the morning as we arrived in Ely, it was nice and hot with barely a cloud in the sky! Lovely turn in the weather! The roads were nice to drive along, traffic was light, and the surrounding scenery was lovely, so it was a great relaxing drive.

Carlow, Kilkenny, Castles, Cathedrals, and Consuls

Continued from Part 1

Today we learnt that a huge number of the roads around and heading away from Dublin were built in the last 10 years, so according to the satnav in my car we spent most of the day driving through fields! Since it’s Helen’s birthday today, we started by visiting an Inglot shop (a high-end makeup brand) in Ireland’s largest shopping centre (that’s about a quarter of the size of the Trafford Centre for comparison).
