Continued from Part 1…
After a few more hours of walking around the city, we decided to have a light dinner at the same restaurant we’d eaten lunch at (The Filling Station), which was again delicious! We shared a massive dessert, a cookie ice cream, which was exactly what it said on the menu! A giant cookie covered in ice cream!
Finally full, we started walking back towards the hotel; choosing to walk instead of getting the bus back to work off all the American style food. We stopped off at a book store on the way to get some reading material for the evening, then relaxed in the hotel until bedtime.
In the morning, we decided to get up early and check out Edinburgh castle since we hadn’t gotten round to it the day before. We had breakfast downstairs in the guest house, where a lot of haggis and black pudding was on offer. We were sat next to an American couple that didn’t understand the concept of either of these foods, and needed it explaining to them three or four times before they both settled for cereal.
We took the bus back in to the city centre again and made our way to the castle.
Despite getting there before 10am, there was a huge queue at the castle with a 90 minute wait to get in. Just as we joined the queue, the heavens opened and it started to rain. Without an umbrella, we decided to abandon that plan and drive down to Glasgow for the day.
On our way back down the hill, we passed a marching band…
Took one last picture of the castle from below…
Then walked back down to the guest house to take the car to Glasgow.
We spent the rest of the Saturday in Glasgow, wandering around various shops, stopping for afternoon tea, and spending plenty of money on the “fashion mile”. In the evening, we unwound in the hotel room with our books bought the previous day.
On the Sunday, we woke up a little later that previous, tired from all the walking. Got our breakfast, then checked out and made our way home. On the way back to England, we stopped off at Carlisle for lunch. Unfortunately most of Carlisle was closed, including the castle, so we just ate and got back on the road. The journey home was pleasant, and roads were nice and empty.
