The Leaning Tower of Caerphilly Castle

Continued from Part 1

We woke up and did our usual on Thursday morning, got ready for the day, got a nice big full-English breakfast inside of us, then checked out of the hotel and went off on our adventures. We set off to Caerphilly to visit the castle there (castles are our favourites after all). It didn’t take us long to get there, and after navigating around the town, we parked at the back of the castle and made our way round to the front.

The castle itself was very impressive as we walked round to the main entrance, surrounded by the moat. The castle was built from a dark looking stone, making it look kind of evil in a weird way, like something from a film.

From every angle, the castle was an impressive sight, the main gatehouse was very daunting. One of the towers to the left of the entrance looked like it was close to falling over, but the heritage company had built a brace in the form of a giant wooden man to hold it up, this was a surprise to see.

The sights around the rest of the castle were stunning, and while the weather wasn’t brilliant, the beautifully overgrown ruins more than made up for it.

After a long walk round the outside, we checked out the interior of the gatehouse and the great hall, where a local school class seemed to be recreating a feast or something similar.

All in all, it was a beautiful ruin. The town of Caerphilly was lovely as well, we stopped in to a small café called Glanmor’s for lunch after a walk around, which looked right up the hill to the castle. With full bellies once again, we hit the road to get home for late afternoon / early evening.
